“Women of the Resistance” is a project originating in the discovery of the diary of Maria Antonietta Moro, a woman born at the border between Italy and Slovenia who fought as a partisan, first with the Yugoslavians and then with the Italians. Starting with this story, we will develop a workshop consisting of analysis, reflections and debates on the role that women had in the resistance and the importance of the resistance for social change.

We will develop a strong network with the scope of favouring the exchange of information materials and promoting a higher awareness about origin of the values that are at the basis of an active European citizenship. The partnership is established between organisations of three neighbouring countries: Italy (region Friuli Venezia Giulia), Slovenia and Croatia. In this area, named “Adriatische Kustenland” during the German occupation, the German repression was particularly hard for the local population.

The contribution of the participating organisations will be based on their particular experience and background. The partnered organisations are: Kulturno izobrazevalno drustvo PiNA (SLO), Bonawentura Società Cooperativa (IT), La Giordola (IT), Associazione Quarantasettezeroquattro (IT), Foundation for partnership and civil society development (HR), CSS Teatro stabile di innovazione del Friuli Venezia Giulia (IT), The Region of Istria (HR).

The project activities consist of: 60 workshops in the high schools of the aforementioned area (Friuli Venezia Giulia, Slovenia, Croatia); a tender for short films and a writing competition; an excursion to Trieste; an open conference about the “Women of the Resistance” and a public presentation of the documentary about Maria Antonietta’s diary and of the best short films and essays of the participants. The project will be subsidised by the European fund “Europe for citizens“.
