We were a part of this years "Croatia volunteers 2024" campaign
This year's campaign for the "Croatia Volunteers 2024" event is taking place from May 22nd to May 25th, under the slogans "I actively participate for democracy," "I actively participate for solidarity," and "I actively participate for dignity."
The Istria Foundation has joined this commemoration with two volunteer actions. The aim of this campaign is to raise public awareness about the importance of volunteering and personal engagement in contributing to the values of the European Union. It aims to demonstrate how volunteering, as a horizontal intervention in society, influences the creation and development of various EU values such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law, human rights, and solidarity.
On Thursday, May 23rd, representatives from the Istria Foundation joined students and teachers at the Giuseppina Martinuzzi Elementary School in a volunteer action to install solar lamps and paint school benches. This volunteer activity was a continuation of the fundraising initiative held on World Good Deeds Day, April 30, 2024, where students raised 560 euros from generous donations at the city market in Pula.
The following day, May 24th, the Istria Foundation organized a workshop titled "Thinking Philanthropically, Acting Ecologically," focusing on philanthropy, ecology, volunteering, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Besides being educational, the workshop also had a volunteer aspect. Following the introductory lecture "From Meadow to Laboratory in the World of Plants," led by Ines Bonazza (president of the ErboIstra association), students from Pula High School and the Italian Secondary School Dante Alighieri had the opportunity to engage in planting medicinal herbs in the Scientific Garden.
We invite you to join us next year in commemorating this event and thereby participate in promoting volunteering that encourages and promotes European values such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law, human rights, and solidarity.
