We have participated in the conference “Philanthropy for stronger democracy”

Last week, from September 10th to 13th, we had the opportunity to participate in the conference "Philanthropy for Stronger Democracy" in the city of Jurmala, Latvia. The event was organized by the Active Citizens Fund (ACF) Latvia in collaboration with ACF fund operators from Bulgaria, Croatia, Malta, Poland, and Romania.

The conference addressed various aspects of philanthropy, its development, and the ways in which philanthropy can contribute to strengthening democracy and a more sustainable civil society in ACF beneficiary countries, as well as in the broader European context. The conference gathered numerous experts who reflected on topics such as: "Legal and Fiscal Frameworks for Philanthropy," "Philanthropy in Layers: From Local Initiatives to a Broader Support Ecosystem," "Ethical Dimensions of Philanthropy," and "Fundraising for 'Difficult' Causes."

The conference provided insight into the diversity of philanthropic approaches across Europe, emphasizing the need for adaptable legal frameworks and greater collaboration among various stakeholders. Additionally, the conference was an excellent opportunity for networking with other players in the field of philanthropy, and we return from Latvia inspired and ready for new philanthropic challenges.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Slagalica Foundation from Osijek for the invitation to participate.
