Workshops at Schools in Unexpressed Talent Project
The Foundation established the pilot actions to seek the Unexpressed Talent targets; in particular, as in Croatia there is a low number of dropouts the institutions targeted were those with the highest number of dropouts and those are vocational schools, especially 1st year students.
The chosen and contacted schools were:
- Industrial and Craft School in Pula
- Vocational school in Pula (where students applied voluntarily and were mostly 2nd year students)
- The Italian high school Leonardo da Vinci in Buje
- Hotel and Tourism School in Poreč
We agreed with the schools to organize 4 workshops to be held once a week. In total 65 students participated in the workshops. Participants were involved in the whole process, to assure raising awareness on the skills necessary for effective team working, communication, and problem solving. Also, the activity allowed them to think about the issues critically and with a problem-solving attitude. The aim was also learning new skills and developing an open-minded attitude.
The main focus was on the awareness of ones own talents in order to valorize more the person's role in society and to express the need for education, especially non-formal education, to be more inclusive. The school professionals agreed on the need for more activities like these ones and especially for 1st year students whom with they found most challenging to work with.
