Active in the community 2024
In March 2024, the sixth "Active in the Community" Academy was held, bringing together ten active citizens dedicated to creating positive changes in their local communities. Throughout the year, participants implemented several social programs that highlighted the power of collective engagement and networking, strengthening social capital, developing a culture of giving, and improving living conditions in the community.
Below is a summary of the social programs carried out in 2024: In Kaštelir, one of the Academy participants presented the results of a social capital mapping, encouraging young people to develop concrete ideas for future activities. In Rijeka, the "Circular Street" program was launched, aiming to improve coexistence among residents, with participants sharing their knowledge and experiences gained at the Academy. Additionally, an initiative was started to improve housing conditions and relationships among residents. In Grimaldi, young people collected funds for the local community during the 17th meeting of young traditional Istrian instrument players, while in Mrkopalj, the "Felt & Wine" workshop connected generations through creative crafting and wine tasting. In Klanjec, the social program "Age Doesn't Matter" was implemented, where generations, from the youngest to retirees, jointly planted trees, showing that age is no barrier to joint projects. In Sisak, a "TikTok for Boomers" workshop was organized, helping older community members acquire skills in using modern technology, strengthening intergenerational bonds. In Umag, a social program was launched aimed at providing a space for activities, which would also better meet the community’s needs. In Slunj, a green space cleanup event was held, bringing together several locals and connecting them for the implementation of future activities. As the implementation of social programs is nearing its end, preparations for Christmas workshops on collage-making and jewelry design are currently underway in Kaštelir.
The "Active in the Community" program focuses on the development of local communities through collaboration and motivating citizens to take concrete actions. Participants of last year’s Academy continue to create positive changes, and one of the successes is the creation of tables and benches for communal use by all residents and visitors of the Municipality of Klana. Members of the mountaineering society built benches and a table at a viewpoint, while the local association acquired materials to create display boards. With the help of a new pyrograph, citizens can now make decorative items. This social program demonstrates the strength of collective work in creating a better, more functional environment for all.
We are pleased to announce that in 2025, we will continue implementing social programs, with some new changes that will allow for an even greater contribution to our community.
