Programe Active in the community 2023

As part of the Active in the Community Program, the fifth "Active in the Community Academy" was successfully held in March 2023, bringing together 5 teams, comprising  of 14 individuals—active citizens who took matters into their own hands and wanted to initiate changes in their communities.

Below, we provide a summary of the social programs conducted throughout 2023:

As part of the social program, an Easter egg decorating workshop was held in Slunj. Elderly residents demonstrated traditional Easter egg decorating techniques with the aim of passing down this knowledge, thereby not only preserving traditional practices but also creating opportunities for intergenerational interactions, positively impacting communal coexistence. In Zabok and Oroslavje, two lectures on socially beneficial topics were held, raising community awareness about the importance of sustainable development and the necessity of nature conservation. Educating the community on ways to reduce stress levels, the positive impact of physical activity, and environmental conservation is certainly one of the essential prerequisites for the prosperity of future generations.

For the implementation of activities related to the development of the Municipality of Klana, potential participants were mapped as part of the social program, and organizations from that area were connected with the residents of the Municipality. After identifying potential participants, a group of active citizens was formed, and 5 meetings were held with this group. Many activities that can be accomplished within a few months were agreed upon during the meetings. Aimed at revitalizing the path and opening a new walking trail, a cleanup and arrangement of the pedestrian path from the center of Klana to Gradina was organized through the social program. During the large cleanup operation, around 30 bags full of trash were collected, along with old car tires and larger pieces of plastic, and the path was cleared of dry branches. To familiarize the residents of Klana and families with children exploring the Klana area with the local attractions, 7 wooden signs were created with interesting facts about Klana and Gradina. After the signs were installed, an educational session on the historical and natural landmarks of the Municipality of Klana was held. Additionally, a photo point featuring painted natural landmarks of the Klana area was created. An active trio from Klana also made a video about the conducted social programs, which you can watch here.

In Lanišće, bugarenje workshops were held as part of the social program. Bugarenje is a traditionally styled singing rooted among the residents of Ćićarija. This form of singing is a significant aspect of cultural heritage. The word “bugariti” means to sing sadly, lament, or mourn. This performance style allows singers to express their emotions and bring the lyrics to life in a more complete way.

In Karlovac, workshops on small home repairs and the installation of winter chains are planned for the end of the month. These workshops aim to provide citizens with practical skills and knowledge to perform minor repairs in their homes or cars themselves. Small home repairs can include replacing a light bulb, fixing a faucet, or addressing minor malfunctions. On the other hand, the winter chain installation workshops teach participants how to correctly install chains on their tires to ensure greater safety and driving control during winter road conditions.

Raising awareness in the local community about the importance of developing a culture of giving has been carried out by theFoundation Istria - Fondazione Istria in collaboration with the Academy attendees. Through such programs, we aim to encourage citizens to actively participate in the community, demonstrate the importance of solidarity, and the need for developing social capital. These programs aim to create awareness and encourage citizens to actively participate in the community. Through collaboration with local partners and the community, the Foundation  builds connections between community needs and the resources that can be mobilized to meet those needs. This collaboration helps develop a culture of giving and solidarity in the local community, thus achieving societal progress.

We are pleased to announce the implementation of social programs in 2024 as well. We look forward to continuing to support the community and contribute to its progress.
