The European Week and Europe Day 2018 in the Istria Region

On Saturday, May 5, 2018, on the square near the City Market in Pula, was celebrated the Day of Europe in 2018, starting up a rich program of the European Week in Pula. This year's program is organized by the City of Pula-Pula and the Europe Direct (EDIC) Pula-Pula Information Centre in cooperation with the Istria County, the Istrian Development Agency, the Agency for Rural Development of Istria and the Foundation for Partnership and Civil Society Development.

A lot of citizens took advantage of the mild and sunny weather and joined the celebration that took place at the city market in Pula. At information stands, the employees of the city of Pula-Pola, the Europe Direct Pula-Pula Information Centre (EDIC), the Istria Region, the Istrian Agency for Development and the Foundation for Partnership and the Civil Society Development met the citizens and informed them on numerous issues concerning the EU, distributed appropriate promotional material as well as numerous EU publications. The activity of the information stands was organized with the aim of bringing the citizens of the Istria Region closer to the values of the European Union and familiarized them with the benefits obtained through the co-financing of numerous projects in Pula and the Istria Region thanks to EU funds.

This year is also the European Year of Cultural Heritage, a great opportunity to celebrate multiculturalism and mutual respect through the strengthening of coexistence as a central value of European way of life.

The rich program, on the occasion of the European Week, will continue on Tuesday 8th of May 2018, organized by the Polytechnic of Pula, where a pilot project entitled "Towards responsive engineering curricula through Europeanization of dual higher education in sectors of Innovation and Smart Specialization - DYNAMIC" will be presented. The project is financed through the EU program Erasmus+. On Wednesday 9th of May 2018, in occasion of the Europe Day and the Victory Day on fascism the program will begin with the laying of the flowers garlands in the Tito's Park and will continue at the Forum in Pula, while on Thursday 10th of May, at the Faculty of Economy and Tourism "Dr. Mijo Mirković" in Pula will take place a round table on "Success in the use of ESI funds", which will be attended by the representative of the Ministry of Regional Development and EU funds as well as representatives of regional and local self-government units.

The celebration of European values will continue in June, through the Festival of Multiculturalism organized by the Istria Region on the occasion that the 2018 was proclaimed as the European Year of Cultural Heritage. The purpose of this Festival is to promote Istrian cultural richness and enrich the tourist offer in the low season with the aim of mutual respect through the strengthening of cohabitation, which is also one of the foundations of the European Union.
